Force RC Combat Helicopters |
| Sunset is fast approaching and the night air is still. I am behind the controls of a military helicopter patrolling the air around our satellite base station. An uneasy feeling comes over me, putting me on high alert. As I hover past my base station again, “BAM!” I am suddenly hit out of nowhere and my heli spins out of control. Thunder Tiger Titan X50 |
| I have been a fan of Thunder Tiger helicopters for almost 10 years, having owned several “Raptor” series helis. Opening the box of the Titan X50, I guess I was expecting some of the same style mechanics that have been synonymous with Thunder Tiger helis of the past. As I looked through the kit, I had to do a double take to make sure it was, in fact, a Thunder Tiger heli, as this machine bears no resemblance to the Raptors of the past. In fact, this might be what a Raptor would look like if you upgraded every part on the machine. Posted Date: 20-06-2011 (All day)

Skookum Robotics SK-720 |
| There are many flybarless controllers on the market now, and most have evolved to the point where they all fly well for most pilots. In addition to flight performance, other differentiating qualities that separate the various flybarless controllers are the ease of setup and the features that are available. The SK-720, from Skookum Robotics, is a second generation flybarless controller and is one of the most feature packed controllers that I’ve seen, while still being relatively easy to program. Let’s take a look at what it has to offer. Posted Date: 20-06-2011 (All day)

O.S. Engines 55HZ-R |
| The HZ-R shares the exact same specs as the popular 55HZ-H but adds the OS Demand Regulator System (DRS) at the fuel inlet to supply fuel based upon the engine RPM. The DRS uses crankcase pressure coupled with a check valve to pressurize the fuel supply creating a high-pressure system that provides constant supply of fuel, unlike like fuel systems that utilize muffler pressure that change as the tank drains. You Can Learn To Fly 3D |
| At its pinnacle, 3D flight is a series of complex maneuvers tied together in a well-choreographed sequence, flown with precision, fast action and moves that seem to defy gravity. For onlookers, watching a top-notch flight is captivating and thrilling. For pilots, developing the skills necessary to master 3D flight is not only exciting but also a rewarding experience as they progress along the learning curve. Posted Date: 20-06-2011 (All day)

Vario Helicopter's Aerospatiale SA 315B Lama |
| Once in a while, a model comes across our desks that words cannot describe. Such was the case with Gonzalo Martinez’s ¼-scale Aérospatiale SA 315B Lama from Vario; when we saw the photos and the level of detail in the building process, we agreed that the photos spoke for themselves. So, feast your eyes on the next six pages and imagine what it was like to build this masterpiece. Posted Date: 08-06-2011 (All day)

Thunder Tiger Mini Titan V2 |
| When I first unboxed the kit, I figured I was going to be building yet another good 450 heli, same as usual. Well, this isn’t the typical 450 kit and I did find some interesting differences, some of which include a full CNC aluminum-alloy metal head and arm, a carbon fiber-encased tail, belt drive and motor, an ESC and a BEC. Don’t worry, there is a lot more coming. Posted Date: 08-06-2011 (All day)

E-Flite Blade MCP x |
| A few years ago when micro electric helicopters such as the Blade mCX, PiccoZ and many others were introduced, we were all impressed that such tiny machines weighing under two ounces could actually fly well indoors. Then we had a dream: when might we one day fly 3D aerobatics indoors with micro electric helicopters? That day has arrived sooner than expected. Posted Date: 08-06-2011 (All day)

Beastx Microbeast 3 Axis Gyro System |
| Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know that flybarless helicopters using 3-axis stabilization have exploded in popularity. In the past, flybarless ‘controller’ choices were very limited and costly, but technology has advanced bringing prices down and features up. The Microbeast, manufactured by BeastX in Germany, is a 3-axis gyro system, utilizing MEMS technology that allows RC helicopters to enjoy fully stabilized flybarless flight. Align 700E F3C |
| Every sport has its pinnacle; for most international athletes, the glory lies in Olympic Gold. For radio control helicopter pilots, the equivalent is a win in F3C competition, which is governed by the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI). Success at this level requires the same dedication, commitment and years of practice that are common among Olympic athletes, coupled with lots of talent and top-notch equipment. Setting Up The Align 3G Flybarless Controller |
| Flybarless helicopters are all the rage these days. There are several benefits to going flybarless, such as reduced drag resulting in longer flights, few mechanical parts, and more stability coupled with more agility. However, for the longtime helicopter junkie like myself, going without a flybar and having to setup a flybarless controller seemed completely foreign. Recently, I had the opportunity to program my first flybarless helicopter, the T-Rex 700E along with Align’s 3G flybarless controller. I got the 700E from HeliWholesaler and after going through the steps, it now seems totally logical and methodical to me. Let’s take a look at what’s involved in setting it up! Setting Up The MSH Protos |
| The MSH Protos is a very high performance 500-class electric helicopter from Italy, and the Protos is now available in hobby shops and from mail order places in the US at a very reasonable price. One of the places that stock Protos in the USA is ReadyHeli. In addition to reviewing the Protos I will explain the basics of setting up a 120-degree eCCPM (electronic cyclic-collective pitch mixing) control system. Use these tips and tricks and you will enjoy superb heli performance. Posted Date: 01-04-2011 (All day)

Parkflyers Hughes 300 |
| originally produced in 1963 and grew to become one of the most versatile helicopters of all time. It was not uncommon to see the 300 with floats hovering over a wreck site in the ocean or on a lake, or outfitted with agricultural spraying equipment flying over farms. Later editions of the 300 were used as law enforcement helicopters and beginning in 1964 the US Army contracted a version of the Hughes 300, designated TH-55A and officially named Osage, to be used as a single rotor training helicopter. Review - Gaui 330X |
| As with most modern technological developments, the seeds for today’s accomplishments were sown by thinkers of antiquity and rotorcraft are no different. The Chinese experimented with toy helicopters almost 2000 years ago and Italian genius, Leonardo da Vinci, explored the concept of human flight using rotorcraft in the 15th century. Practical experimentation in rotorcraft flight didn’t have its start until the 18th century and the first quadrotors didn’t appear until the early 20th century. Since the concept hit the hobby RC market, development has been feverish and innovation constant. Posted Date: 01-04-2011 (All day)

Review - Horizon Hobby Blade 120 SR |
| I love to fly larger glow-power helicopters but being very busy I cannot always get to a flying field. I used to shy away from the smaller “micro” electric helis because the flying characteristics were very different from their larger-scale counterparts, especially with fixed-pitch models. Blade however, has done an amazing job producing a series of helicopters that perform like larger glow models and the 120 SR is no exception. Posted Date: 01-04-2011 (All day)

Ray's Helitech Authoritative DVD Series - Beginner To Advanced Lessons In Your Living Room |
| You have probably noticed that almost every article on helicopters recommends getting an expert to help check out your model and walk through your first few flights with you if you are new to the game. That is great advice, and given with the best of intentions, but what if you don't have, or can't find, a local expert? Fortunately there is an expert readily available to us all, and his name is Ray Hostetler. Posted Date: 05-01-2011 (All day)
